| "Silent Resident" is at the same time a thriller, a love story and a parable about 21st century society. The timeless and geographically detached setting of the story is a city which controls itself and whose impressive and haunting architecture mirrors the atmosphere of the narration. Hannah lives and works in the self-sufficient "living machine" Neustadt (New Town) on the outskirts of place and time. When she leaves her violent husband and moves to a higher, socially superior floor of her building, her life quickly begins to derail. Why is she being observed by her new neighbours and spied upon by the internal security system? Why did the previous tenant commit suicide? And where is her ex-husband? |
