MappaMundi takes you on an accelerated voyage through 950 million years of continental drift and 150.000 years of human migration. The film visualises the continuous change of our world, a change that is unnoticable for a human being in a single lifetime. MappaMundi is a film about the image of the world that we have been sketching repeatedly anew for thousands of years. With over hundred world maps from the past 15.000 years, the development of our view of the world from its beginnings to this day is critically analysed and illustrated in its diversity.

MappaMundi lets us experience the history of the transformations of Planet Earth and its inhabitants. It makes us aware how much that history relies on the principles of movement, displacement, change, and intermixture, thereby demonstrating the absurdity of current political strategies that aim at fortifying borders and inhibiting migration. MappaMundi shows the world we inhabit as the result of a process of continuous, radical change, a process of incessant transformation - that is both unstoppable and fascinating.
