In the end is my eye: A programmer's map

Not a text about Im Anfang war der Blick, not directly at least, but about three screenings of it in Italy that I was responsible for as a festival programmer. The three venues all happen to be just across the border from Austria and therefore share with the film itself a good deal of the same Alpine landscapes and cultural background. If Im Anfang war der Blick tells us something about all that, and therefore about those places too, what took place with and around the shows right there, in the town of Trento and in the villages of Pieve di Cadore and Gradisca d'Isonzo, may tell us something about the film in return. The map of the Alpine territories stormed by the filmmaker's gaze is superimposed with the personal map of this journey from one show to the other, a journey which is itself interwoven with cinematic ghosts, psycho-geographic paths, private memories and some oddly meaningful accidental occurrences. An attempt to make sense of the actual "site-specific" happening of a film, in a special place, from the point of view of who caused it, just when movies are supposed to be virtually everywhere, or probably nowhere anymore.
